Reserve Game and Wildlife of the Rhine (RCFS) spans the two Alsatian departments. The low-rhinoise part, covering an area of 4135 hectares, is managed by the National Office for Hunting and Wildlife. It lies mainly on the grounds Electricite de France and waterways of France, and between Lauterbourg Marckolsheim. This is a site of international importance for the host of migratory waterbirds. Biogeographic crossroads between the Mediterranean and Scandinavia / Siberia, the Rhine is in effect a migratory corridor and a major wintering area, welcoming tens of thousands of birds. To ensure their peace, the practice of hunting is prohibited. Other recognition of the ecological site, the entire upper Rhine was appointed in September 2008 as a Ramsar site Franco-German as wetland qualities remarkable heritage worldwide. In the Community Commons Rhine, the surface of the Reserve is 966 hectares and includes the Rhine to the Franco-German channel the cons, and the island of Gerstheim and points north and south of Isle of Rhinau.
